    Default NSW Rosewood

Hi, can anyone tell me what NSW Rosewood is like to work. Also, is it strong in small section ? Is it very hard or heavy ? Does it carve well, as I am interested in using it for some furniture that will have lots of curves.

Guys, I know there are lots of websites that have this information but I am wanting some real, non-book information from someone with hands-on experience with this timber. I'm just after your all round impressions.

I would also like to know about its conservation status.

    thanks

    Default NSW Rosewood

    Hi Arron
Yes I have worked nsw rosewood in the seventys I turned hundreds of items out of rosewood the oil in the wood seems to lubricate the tool as it cets beautifly an excelent timber for turning good firm timber for carving .Some trees have interlocking grain making planing difficult others are very straight grain .if you are using it for furniture joinery you need to size the timber and let settle for some time as it sometimes has a tendncy to move a bit but seems to be ok once it has equalised the stresses within. Also some of the darker and more fragrent timber can oily seepage causing problems with finishing but a wipe over with thinners will remove any deposited on surface and if sealed sprayed or whatever finish you are using you should not have any trouble
