the olive boll
I went and dug it up this morning
now what di i do with it? (apart from giving it to dj)
how do i tell if its any use?
some of the smaller roots had rotten but there are a few that are still green
the dirty big lump i havent really seen under the dirt
do i wash it all off and dry it, do i take the bark off to see whats underneath
I'm curious to see what all the exitement is about

sorry dj
didnt mean i was giving it to you
I meant what can i do with it myself.?
I may offer it to one of the many thoughtful blokes who have offered to make me a little somthing in returnas i said the living tree had some sentimental value.

hopefully it has lots of bulges and corrigations on the outside. The gnarlier it is the better the figure will be. It would want to have at least some greeny/grey/yellow heartwood because the sapwood by itself can be a bit plain. Drying without severe cracking involves cutting it up asap into smaller pieces( at least into 1/4ers) sealing the whole peice, keep it out of the sun and wind in a plastic bag.... and hope for the best. It is tempramental stuff the olive, look at it the wrong way and it'll crack on you!
everything is something, for a reason:confused:

working green
I stripped the bark from a bit of a root, it seems to have some nice figuring.
should i cut it into quarters wont this mean smaller products. not knowing how much you have to trim off before you can work it, we could end up with napkin rings, a nice but obsolite artical,
I want to know if i can carve this green,
if someone is in the SE subs maybe they can swing past give it a lookover and share,
