    Thumbs up Your Opinion Please............

I would welcom your opinion on milling some blackwood we will be aquiring, the logs are 500mm plus diameter but only2 foot to six foot long at the most they are salvage logs before they get burned so a lot of hard work ahead for us.I guess the bigger ones would be better slabbed but the short ones cut into turning blanks,so if you have any specific opinions please let me know.If any one wants some of this timber off the saw we will do a good deal as we dont have to rack it out and store it away for a couple of years so it will be a great oportunity to get some cheaper blackwood........

mmm, nice log shaped blanks could be useful Jim.

Maybe 10 20 cm thick with bark and sapwood intact.

Even some maybe longer for vases etc, maybe up to 50 cm.

Also smaller boards for boxes or ukuele sides/backs, 60 cm long, 1 cm thick 20 cm wide, dry is better.

    anything figured is good.

I'll take 20 kilos if u can get a good postage rate.

    Question Ok Oz.............

ok OZ but the thing is "what do people want" i have up to 3 inch square turning blanks and 8 inch by 3 inch bowl blanks but no one has mentioned that they need bigger blanks for turning vases etc......i do have access to some blackwood 6 inch square by around 8 foot long dry so that is a start. We got a load of 3 big b/w logs from the logging log dump yesterday and got a prize piece which is bowed and has fiddle back and birdseye in it so it will be first to be slabbed, lots of small lengths for turning blanks as well and we estimate about another four loads just of b/w before anything else so it is here if any one wants it...........Will have pics as soon as available.

One thing I did notice when I was in Tass this year, is that most of the furniture grade is sold at 150x25ish.

Some thicker lumps for legs, rails etc, would be good.
Say 50x75, 100x50, 100x100, at least with them sizes you have the option to rip them down if you want, and you have some good stock for legs.

Im not saying I want any, ok I do want some, but I cant afford any at the moment , awhhhh.
