Pack lot
Not wanting to sound unconcerned about the problems trees face but can anyone tell me what sort of quantity of timber a "pack lot" generally is??? Would this generally be the quantity required to line or frame an average sized house or something? Also I was told by a timber retailer that it would be a mistake to buy sized softwood (Eg: 190x12) to convert to T&G lining myself because the mill not knowing the end use would tend not to care too much about the quality of the planing - is it usual to ask a mill to pick out only suitable timber? If not how much over the required quantity would you generally have to buy??
Thanks

It depends on the sawmill that supplies the timber as to the height and width of the pack. Also some packs are fixed length boards and others have mixed length.
As your supplier as they usually have tally sheets for each pack.
