    Default Paulownia

Hi, has anyone tried using Paulownia inplace of Western red Cedar. Or generally what's it like to work.

    Yep. I like it.

Clean, easy to machine, glues well.

    But it isn't red!

As for not being red i don't mind so much. I just want something light in weight and cheap.
I'm making some window shutters and it seems a few companies are using it. It seems as if it machines very well but i have no idea if it crumbles a like like WRC.
Anyway thanks for the help i maybe buy a board and see how it goes.

na it doesnt crumble, its a hardwood, quite long lasting. I havent used much of it but cut up a log a while back, turned a few bits, nice stuff, dries quick. There was a guy near Tabulum selling some a while back.

Contact the Paulownia suppliers and ask for some samples

    Sinjin,

If you are going to mill your pieces to a certain extent anyway, contact John White (whitewood) for a sample flitch, postage of these three cost $11.00, but that will vary for longer distances.

    See this thread:https://www.woodworkforums.com/f8/paulownia-timber-48356-post522908

Anybody interested in a sample/s of Paulownia similar to that I sent to bitingmidge can purchase a plank/s about the same size as those shown for $5.00 per piece plus transport costs. (No packing or handling charges.) Freight is a complicated matter and is to difficult to include in this tread. I would rather deal with it on an individual basis.

If you are interested e-mail me direct at [email protected] or visit my web sit at www.paulownia-timber-sales.com.au to find out more about me. A web browser will be the better way to find my site.
    Cheers,

    P
