Ply or laminated 2.4 x 1.2 sheets?

In Melbourne laminated 2.4 x 1.2 x 14mm sheets around $85 and 19mm around $100

I don't know whether I should apologise but plywood to me is a flexible panel that has the grain going at 90 degrees per layer. I don't know anyone selling these sheets of timber using paulownia. I also felt that veneer was the very thin timber that could be glued onto other timber by the purchaser. I don't know anyone producing or selling veneered paulownia.

Port Phillip Plantation Shutters in Melbourne sells solid panels of paulownia finished in a veneer of very good quality Paulownia. There is a web site showing prices etc. but a 2.1 by 1.2 x 14 mm sheet costs $98.17 (weight 11 kg). The same size but 45 mm thick is $229.84 (30 kg) and 2.4 x 1.2 x 19 mm for $138.60 (7 kg). There are other sizes but these are examples of what he calls cleargrade solid panels not plywood.

I guess it depends what you want to build.

Thank you for the replies. Sorry I didn't reply earlier, I've been sick this last week.

I'm after either veneer (1/16 - 1/8 thick) or plywood, as in layers at 90 degrees, preferably 1088, which SHOULD mean no voids (although sub std stuff does get labeled 1088 sometimes).

I believe they are making it in China or Hong Kong. Looking for a local source.

I don't think you'll find it stocked anywhere.
If you can find the veneer a pannel layer can do it for you... but i'll be cheaper to get it freighted from HK. (I'm serious)

I'm new on the forum, attracted by this thread on paulownia ply...

I am saling paulownia plywood with birch veneer finishes(0.5mm thickness).
It uses pure phynolic glue, and the density is about 300KG per CBM.

Danny, anywhere in Melbourne i could get a sample (say 300mm x 300mm) And as you are in China does that mean to get some sheets (or single sheet) i have to import it?

I just shipped one container to Gold Coast(18mm and 12mm thickness). I think the products will arrive to the factory this week.

Thanks for that info Danny, I wonder how much mass the birch adds compared to the paulownia? - can you advise mass for each thickness?

For this job time ran out and I used Gaboon, but at least it is FSC, which is a pleasant surprise. Made by Jourbert to BS1088 (?) marine ply standard, available from Denman Marine in Tas.

Hi Mate,
The 18mm plywood is composited with 11 layers of paulownia veneer(1.75mm thick) and 2 layers of birch veneers as finishes (0.5mm thick).
The 12mm plywood is composited with 7 layers of Paulownia veneer,and birch finishes.
The paulownia plywood has no BS 1088 standard, but boiling water 24hours no problem. The glue used for this plywood is phynolic resin from dynea.

Just a Question about paulownia ply ,for those who have used 19mm bb hoop ply, how does the paulownia plywood differ ie; is it lighter in weight? is it as stable ? [stays flat] & does not warp, will it hold a screw,is it a consistent thickness over the entire sheet.& when you say it has been sent to the factory in QLD to Peter is peter using it or will he be able to supply it to us ?
