I spray with Boron before stacking, but tend to respray as well every year

...If I may ask Neil, as to where you obtain Boron.
I just use Borax in a water solution.

Borax contains Boron, but not sure how much Boron it has, the container just says 100% Borax .

They use soluble Boron when spraying for bugs on fruit/nut trees, so I get it from a local farm products seller. Unfortunately Boron has gone up, a heap, so I have gone back to Borax. Unfortunately I have found the Borax is OK if used straight away (dissolved in warm water), but as I keep it mixed in a 20lt sprayer, it re-crystalized and settled to the bottom. Either that or I used to much and some just didn't dissolve properly, but either way, it clogged up my sprayer.

It's been a while since I visited the local produce store, so I'll have to check them out and see what they have now.
The pest guys must be complaining a bit about their good stuff being available to the public.
I do have some good stuff in the shed a pesty put me onto, will check in the morning what is in it.

I use this
Mixes with kero. Smells awful. Seems to work very well. I had some quarter logs where the sapwood was riddled with powderpost beetle. This sorted them out. But it too is very dear so I can't preventatively spray my entire collection.
I just spray anything that appears to be infested.

The active constituent is permethrin which is great for knocking off the active borer that comes into contact with it but not a real good option for stopping future infestation. Short of having your timber stacks fumigated the best option would be to spray with a boron based product prior to stacking/storing your timber.

I'll try and get some boron. I'm due to tidy up the shop so it'll give me an excuse to fumigate.

Thanks everyone for the advice. It's probably not a topic that gets discussed often enough so it's great to get some more info.

Borers are obviously an issue up Brisvegas way whereas down here they're non-existent. Mind you, looking at the temperature gauge, it's -1.5 C here at the moment and the little suckers, if they did exist, would be frozen balls by now.

Yeah unfortunately they are pretty much a constant issue in these parts. I've never had many troubles with them myself but it's good to be cautious.

...this is what I have been using. It is a few years old now and hopefully the produce store still stocks it.

Not the same as the Rentokil producct as bifentheren has has a much better residual effect but unfortunately not as good a quick knock down effect. This product is more used for cockies, spiders etc.

...cheers for that rumnut, so I spose I could spray the Cro Pro ZEUS first, let it dry, then spray the Rentokil next.

Im a pestie, those products shown in the pics will kill active borers , but arent really good as a presertive, a borate product is much better and safer no hydro's so no smells
