Are these all pine?
Hi all,
In the attachment are photos of 3 pieces of wood which I got for free from the local woodworking club. They were all described as pine, but are all quite different.
Are they indeed all pine? Also, any other comments would be nice e.g. which pieces seem to be of higher or lower quality. The whitest piece, for example, is almost powdery in parts and seems possibly unusable to me.

End grain identifies all as pine and i would say the middle piece in the first picis Radiata.
I always find with pines, of any sort, that the closer the grain the better they are to use.

pine
Hi Russ, hard to tell from pix but from endgrain pik I would say lower piece is oregon(red), middle radiata(yellow) & top hoop(white). Blueish stain is due to exposure to high moisture & might degrade usability. Try getting hold of Kauri, huon or celery top for fine pines to work with.
Cheers, Kiwi

I have pictures of huon, celery top and kauri pine in my DK woodworking book, I'll take it with me to the wood market and see what I can find.
