Default Please help identify these box maker leftovers.

The box maker I got these from is on personal leave at the moment.

Can anyone please help identify these box maker leftovers.

    No problem if not.

If I could be so bold as to ask NOT to guess.
And only reply if you are sure would be a great help.

    Thanks heaps in advance.
    Thanks,

I'm quite sure 4 is QLD Maple.
3 & 5 are both Eucalypts but I'd need a pic of them dressed to be more specific.
Pretty confident 2 looks like American Walnut and 1 looks like Euro Beech; again, need better pics to be sure.

One can never be positive when viewing photos. There are many factors that lead to a more informed identification ie weight, smell and texture.

Barry, any id made from a pic is a guess. It may be a well-informed and quite likely accurate guess like Elan's, or it may be a wild guess, as so many are. The reason so many different woods have the same common name is because so many look alike! As rusty says, density, odour & other features that you can't photograph are much more reliable. For example Black Walnut & Qld. Maple have very characteristic odours (it can be faint if the piece has been kicking around a while), but of course that's no use to you if you have no experience of those particular woods.

I'd take Elan's answer as being a very good guess...

    Cheers,
    IW

    Thanks Elan. Much appreciated.

Hoping the following pics might help to clarify:

    That's much better.

I'm going to stick with what I said earlier for 1, 2 and 4

Don't have a whole lot of experience with natives, but I'm leaning toward Brushbox for 5. Pass on 3; I want to say Blue Gum, but it doesn't feel right. Hopefully someone else can chime in.
