Peppercorn & Claret Ash Trees
Hello to all,
I would appreciate any advice regarding these two trees as to the suitability and safety of working with their timber. Having recently removed some large branches from both trees (Storm Damage) I was wondering if they are safe to work with? The Ash I'm sure is O.K. but as for the Peppercorn I have no idea. There is a lot of white sap oozing from the logs which makes me wonder. As I'm new to woodturning I thought the Ash might be suitable for turning tool handles? Once again, all advice and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am using some peppertree at the moment and it seems fine. The general rule with any wood though is don't breath the dust. (I assume you mean 'dangerous' as in toxic).

Peppercorn is fantastic to work wet on the lathe. Dry it is bloody awful. It is almost like turning cork.
If you turn it thin it will move all over the place. Excellent for practice turning.
Claret ash I have turned had almost pure white, pretty bland looking grain, but when coloured using water dye or a spirit stain it shows out an amazing grain formation. It is like finding a hidden secret.
