    Default Plywood door

Hello, I wanted to make a door out of plywood to continue as the same material as the wall panelling. I imagined that the door would be too heavy to use 12mm ply and then if i go down to 4mm if will warp. The doors are to be for joinery cupboards as well as doors to enter into different rooms. The heights are 2400mm but the width is nominal. Could someone suggest how I could make these doors, either by using a frame and a 4mm ply or by using a proprietry semi solid core door and re-cladding the mdf with ply. Thanks for the help, Georgia

wouldnt worry too much about weight of doors i make solid studio sound doors out of a variety of materials with mdf or ply skins and they can weigh well over 80 kilos just match the hinges to weight and shouldnt be a problem use 12mm ply with 19mm frame gives you a 43mm thick door which is about 5mm thicker than your average door
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they

    Default plywood doors

    Hi Geogia,
The 12mm ply ...not sure that it would be too heavy as a single sheet, over time tho it would most likely form a bit off a curve/bow to it without a frame, be the quickest way to make a door tho

Possibly a couple of ways to tackle this...as u have eluded to...using premade internal doors and recladding with your plywood, the door will end up thicker by the amount u add to them, if the extra thickness is too much u might be able to peel off the original lining (but I think that would be a big might) u will prolly wreck the door doing it, u might be able to get your plywood applied to a set of doors instead of the manufacturer's lining at the manufacture stage Who makes Corinthian doors? (brand name I think) (another big might) but u never know What about secondhand internal doors usually can get em cheap

To make urself...Like u say a frame top btm sides then stiffeners inside the frame, the more stiffeners the more support the ply will have and then for a really stiff strong door u could make up a torsion box design door but a lot of work

just a few ways others might have some thoughts.....
