    Default Plywood in Perth

Where do you fellow Perthies get your plywood from?

The stuff at Bunnies is crap and expensive...

I want to get nice looking ply, not sure what it is called but plywood with not as many defects as the Bunnies crap has.

    Cheers

Depends what you're looking for but try M&B in Bayswater and Cullity Timbers on Balcatta road for starters. others will provide more. and then there Google and the yellow pages

    Hey Arry,

My choice would be M&B, Cullitys do very good ply and it comes Vaneered with your choice of timber, but very expensive, what are you making???

Amerind in bunbury have a great range, they have a store in Perth as well. I have been using " British marine ply" recently for a job, not bad for the price. But with ply you do get what you pay for!!!!
    its only short one end!!

I have only bought timber from them and not ply but perhaps try Austim in Wangarra.

    Cheers guys

HazzaB, nothing particular at this stage.

Its funny, when I buy plywood from the Big Green Shed, it always looks cheap. Then I watch videos on Youtube from people in the US making jigs etc, and the plywood they use always seems to be of a lot higher quality than here, ie knot and blemish free etc.

That is because the American mainly use birch ply or apple ply. These types of ply have almost no cavities and are much more stable.
What I buy in Perth from Morgan Timbers (they do deliver) is Austral Ply made in OZ. Very good with great screw holding ability but rather expensive.
Example - a sheet of 19mm Austral A-C ply (A bond glue with one A face and one C face) will cost about $240.

Arry, NO it is actually true. A few years back I purchased those same sheets for $130.
Carbatec now have some imported ply and if you by the marine quality it looks quite OK although I have no experience with it. When I wanted to test screw holding ability, they did not have an offcut for me. I was told that other customers are happy with it.
    Hope this helps.

its unreal isn't it? A huge country like this with resources galore and we cant get anything for less than 4 times the US price.

I was looking at exactly this. A video I watched for a guy who built a garage cabinet said it cost him $240... when I priced it locally, with lower quality ply, it was close to $1000

This country is insane in its prices... like Japan in the 80's!
