Default Pre primed pine...what's in it?

First of all, I apologise if this is not the correct forum for this question (couldn't seem to find anything that was quite suitable).

Does anyone know how to tell what kind of priming is used in pine that you can buy 'pre primed'. The fellow who is selling
it is unaware of what kind of priming it is. My main concern is that is if it contains anything nasty that might worry the bees
(it's for bee hives). Are there any give aways that might indicate what it is?

    Thanks.

    Good Morning Kalium

Sorry, I cannot help you on the primer issue.

You might also be concerned by the type and source of the pine. If it was imported then it is almost certain that AQIS would have required the pine to be treated - either pressure of infusion - before importation. CCA treatment leaves that characteristic green treated pine stain, but there are over 100 approved treatments and most do not stain the timber.

I suspect bees would not like fungicides or insectacides.

H3 LOSP is whats in it (or at least the treatment under the paint). Might not kill bees - I regularly have paper wasps build on some stuff we used here with no seeming ill effects - but it might kill them or possibly taint the honey. Probably okay for a backyard job but I'd suggest that if you depend on those bees for income it might be a bit risky.

For my hives, I only use raw unpainted/primed pine.
