Preservation .......
.... of orange tree bark.
I have gained a few pieces of green orange tree timber and after washing the dirt off I found beautiful bark covering less than half the circumferance, which I want to preserve. Once the limbs begin to dry I expect the bark will split - can anyone tell me what to do to stop that?
Please, soth

It is very hard to keep bark on citrus wood. The best I've found is to completely coat it in wax emulsion/timber sealer and dry it very slowly. It might be worth dipping in diesel or kero as an alternative. A lot of the problem comes from the little borers which get in under the bark and eat through the cambrium layer. The oil should stop them and slow down the drying process. Good luck.

Hi there masoth, id suggest using Cutek CD50.
Here are some points that the supplier promotes. I have used it and swear by it.
Helps to resist against surface decay, fungas and mould
Provides the timber with a natural water repellency helping prevent shrinkage in timber
Cutek does not peel off or crack, helps to control warping, cupping and splitting
Cutek's unique formula has a low toxicity makeup, making it a very safe product
Im sure that you can buy it in most Timber & Hardware Stores.
Cheers

My thanks. The particular pieces are too interesting to not try to keep.

Well, I've taken 24 hours to calm down - never take your eyes off the job!!!
I roughed-out my precious orange wood and decided to speed the drying in a microwave, then the phone rang ...................
