Purchasing Tassie oak
Hi there,
I'm new at this forum/Thread stuff so I'm not sure if I am even doing this correctly, I have allready posted a question earlier but haven't had a reply.
Any way I am a complete novice at furniture making but would like to build some pieces of furniture around the house, starting with a frame for a large mirror.
I want to use Tassie oak/Victorian ash it's a great looking timber and comes up to a beautiful finish.
Does anybody know of a timber supplier who has time for the novice woodworker, stocks the Tassie oak & is reasonably priced, I live in Adelaide.
If anybody can help me that would be a great help.
Cheers Deamy

As a one-time Adelaide resident I do not like your chances of finding reasonably priced Tassie Oak there. The few times I used some I paid through the nose.
Here in Tasmania I occasionally pick up furniture quality wood at the local tip. It is the common house framing timber. I suspect that it will be used less extravagantly here in the future.
I think that your only hope of a bargain in Adelaide is from salvage yards.

Purchasing Tassie oak
Hi to everybody
I posted a thread on the 2nd of Dec.. asking if anybody could help me in purchasing some Tassie Oak from a reputable timber outlet, one who has time for the novice cabinet maker/ woodworker.
I want to make some furniture for around the home ie. a tv cabinet, sideboard, I thought I would start off with a simple project & build a frame for a mirror.
I live in Adelaide, so if anybody has any suggestions of where I could purchase some Tassie Oak it would be greatly appreciated, then come & build it for me, Ha, Ha only joking.
Cheers
Deamy

Sorry I can't help specifically for Adelaide. All I can suggest is try local timber suppliers, who may at least be able to point you in the right direction or a supplier such as Trend Timbers (Trend Timbers)
You have mentioned Victorian Ash in particular, but Tasmanian Oak is a marketing group which includes Victorian Ash as well as Mountain Ash, Alpine Ash and Messmate Stringybark amongst others.
Oh, and welcome to the Forums .

I have bought Tas Oak from Ottos at Norwood, good quality but not cheap. I think that I have seen it at Bunnings recently?
