Purple Heart
Hi there,
anyone able to tell me where I can source Purple Heart timber from? What is the usual price range?
I'm finding it hard to find any timber retailers/wholesalers in Sydney, particularly in the Nth Western side.
Any help would be appreciated.
Tenonman.

lol, not much, but I only need a couple of 50mm stips for bordering. How much are they roughly? I take it their imported. Any idea of a likely substitute with a similar colour. should I just stain some timber, if I do, which timber would work best (Matching)

Hey mate I got some purpleheart from Trend Timbers.
It's about 600mm long x 250mm wide and 25mm thick - it cost me around $60-70 from memory. It was all dressed up when I got it.
It's still in the garage I am yet to use it, I can get a photo if you like to see what you get? Let me know

Here are the pics mate.
I'm going to use some of the purpleheart in an end grain chopping board, the rest i'll probably resaw and get 2x10mm lengths out of it for a box maybe?

Thanks for the pics, that's defo the kind of timber I'm looking for. Would look awesome once coated with finish
I think I'll be going this weekend to Trend Timbers.
Show us some more pics once you've made the cutting board. Will you be making it similar to the Wood Whisperers one? He made a end grain cutting board with 2 different types and put them in a checker board layout.
But I think yours will turn out even better with the Purple Heart.

Hey mate, I have already started making the chopping board. Here is the thread.

I am basing my board like Marc's (wood whisperer). He uses Purple Heart and from memory Maple on his. I'll be doing a very similar design with the checker board layout.

There are plenty of nice timbers about but there is only one Purpleheart.
If that is the colour /effect you want then go to Trend.
They have large 1" boards and a good selection of small pieces.
For a few dollars you can get a range of really great pieces of timber. Great for dressing up projects and making them look special.Scally
