    Question Purpleheart in Melbourne area?

    Hi all,

First-time poster, some-time reader here. I've been trying to locate some Purpleheart around Melbourne but with no luck so far. Having searched the forums here, the closest I got was with Mathew's Timber, who used to stock it but haven't had any in for half a year and isn't likely to get anything in for months. If anyone has any recommendations on where to look that would be most appreciated! I was hoping to find some to have something to occupy myself with over the holiday break.

I'm after a single board, minimum 30x60x1100, ideally 30x150x1500 or so. I'm finicky with grain-orientation, though anything backsawn is likely to be good for me. I might consider 25mm thickness, but I'd have to feel it in person first.

For those who are curious, I'm another of the martial arts people who has discovered that making your own training weapons is a lot of fun. Having recently finished a couple of (heavy!) red ironbark swords I'm now keen on making a slightly lighter and even more striking sword/staff/knife set for myself. Doing the staff without a lathe will be character-building no doubt... :)

Thanks in advance for any info,
    /Johny

Fantastic! Many thanks to you! (though not from my wallet or my S.O. *cough*)
I've now got a beautiful 50x220x1500 piece that's way more than what I need - I'm not sure what I'll do with the surplus, though more weapons do come to mind...

    Thanks again,
    /Johny
