Queensland Maple
I am wanting to use figured Queensland Maple for a yacht hatch and some seats which are locker hatches. The boat is Q. Maple, as is the internal trim. These will be feature pieces, so need to be good.
Is there any way to tell whether a given piece of rough sawn timber will be figured, or does one have to saw and dress it to know? I gather it needs to be quarter-sawn, but I sure can't afford to saw up lots of timber hoping for the best!

Hi Beej,
You don't say what your location is. If you are in sunny Queensland where it is beautiful one day and clear felled the next then you might like to try Endeavour Timbers at Northgate in Brisbane.
This man is soooo helpful and he knows what he is talking about. He is a timber enthusiast and spends ages with his customers making sure that they get what they want/need.
His prices are reasonable too.
This has been a paid advertisment. (My next load of timber will be 1/2 price I hope)Bob Willson
