Thread: Queensland Yellow Walnut?

We turn it into H3 roof battens most months: i.e. It's neither difficult to obtain nor is it particularly valuable. It runs at F14 structural. It can cut a really nice floorboard, except that lemon yellow floors aren't in demand much lately.
it can also be a bitch for carrying high levels of silica that make it difficult to keep sharp cutting edges up to it, which is why it's "rare" on the market (as opposed to rare in the bush): a lot of mills won't touch it.

i don't see why it couldn't be used for furniture... Aside from the silica issue its a nice timber, and the yellow coloration offset with either white or dark brown accent timbers could be spectacular.

Can see your post is 7 years old but did you work with the yellow walnut? It’s an enemy of the blades but it’s a beautiful timber.
