I hope no one gets the wrong idea here - there is heaps of great timber there still to be sought and bought Sassy, Blackwood, Myrtle and lots of burl slabs and turning blanks as well as boards. Some small huon burl with great figure.
Dave did bring a little huon and fire myrtle and wow that myrtle was something - going to use what I got as a highlight on a dressing table project next year and some extra for box making and small items purse mirrors etc.
So anyone wanting great timber cheap go and get amongst it while you can.
I believe Dave is looking to have Craig stock some there for future sourcing so I will most likely return once the project gets going - always need more don't we.
It was a bargain and I was greedy https://www.ubeaut.biz/toothless.gif
Glad to hear you're happy with your myrtle Teejay, I've never seen anything like it. Even Dave and Jim are a bit stunned by it! You're absolutely right that we'll be stocking some of Dave's timber in future and should be able to offer very keen pricing. As many of the Brisbaneites will know, we haven't really focussed very much on the turning or craftwood side of things in the past, but that will change. I'm well over the "thrill" of milling and hope to spend a lot more time in the shed while my partner runs the mill. (Note that word "hope"). We're looking to add some Western species in future as well, although the supply is not easy to secure. If anyone has any particular species they feel would be a good addition to the range, please add your thoughts and we'll keep our eyes open.
Craig have u talked tot he Djalimari guys
http://www.djarilmari.com/
i have bought stuff form them and its really good quality. I am sure they would consider a reasonable deal for bulk, thye have some really unique stuff.
Also its worth a chat to Lionel Tomes at Amalgamated timbers in Toowoomba, he was out west cutting some mulga and other good stuff recently, also his big round wood shed it worth taking a look at..
cheeeeeers
Well i am back home and it snowed last night so i missed it but it is very cold here compared to QLD.Dave is still there for a little while longer yet.
I just wanted to say thankyou to all the people who came to Craig's (too many to list here)and supported Dave and his venture into QLD and bought some nice Tassie timber.
I think it is going to be a successful ventur in cunjunction with other wood groups and clubs to keep sending a regular supply to Craig's to keep all of you happy for ever.........
I would especially like to thank Craig who took time off to help us last week and also let us use his shed to display the goodies,it was very much apreciated, thanks Craig.
Ruffly Rustic, what a surprise to see you there Wendy,it was a pleasure to meet you in person....sorry guys but she was better looking to get a mention.....:D
Thanks for the kind words from the posts,it makes it all worth while, you are a great bunch of fellow woodies......thanks to all......
Kind Reguards Tasman
Well fellas now you have " business interests" in QLD you have a good tax deductable reason to get out of the cold from time to time.
I think proserpine would be a good place to sell some southern timber. You would be wise to do due diligence & make sure that any turners on the whitsunday islands get good service.:D
Wendy is always good for some amusment, Watchin Wendy buying timber would have to be one of the most entertaining things there is :D :D. She just gets so "animated" when she finds the piece of timber that has been looking for her.:D
Good to see Exador will be stocking some cold climate natives on a regular basis.
I have been in his ear about presenting some of the interesting stuff that he has stashed.
cheers chaps & Wendy.
Thanks John, I have been talking to a chap in Moree who seems to have a fair chunk of interesting dryland species in log form. Hopefully something will come of that. I'd like to do a bit of a road trip out west soonish as well, just to see who's got what and where they've got it.
WA is probably too far away at the moment, although if I thought there was enough interest I'd look into it.
Couldn't agree more about Wendy. If the timber shouted at me the way it does to her, I'd be threatening it with the chainsaw :D.
Having seen how that Japanese oak pen you gave me came up, I'm going to slice up some blanks over the next week or so and probably a few others as well. If anyone is interested, give me a yell and I'll make up some packs in a range of species and possibly some burl as well. What's a fair price for a pack of (say) 5 blanks?
Good Point TeeJay!!
and as to the rest!! Crikey!!!!!
Tasman gave me the best 'proper' word to describe -
Dendophile? Is that right Tasman? Sorry, all I remember is 4 grinning faces, Lucy the dog and the *S P R E A D* of beautiful Tas Timber :o
Cheers
Wendy
