Radiata/Hoop Pine demand
I've just joined and I'm asking for your help.I'm in a position to supply theses timbers and wondered if there is a demand for this timber cut to length and avail in most sizes? I went to the last Woodshow in Brisbane (2007) and was supprised to not see any Radiata for sale.
Any imput,comments are welcome.

Gidday PineBloke,
OK forget the obvious crapiata comments, the question deserves an answer...
Trying to get hold of decent hoop or radiata in SEQ is IMPOSSIBLE.
I would happily have bought clear(ish) hoop for the masts for the PDRacers for instance, in fact I tried to, but the asking price was about the same as Huon!
Have you got a supply of half decent stuff at less that Qld Maple prices?
When all else failed, I tried to buy radiata studs as well, but whereas once they seem to be bent and twisted, now there wouldn't be a stud that had more than two feet between knots. Clear stuff means finger joints at 6" centres it seems!
What can you do, and at what price?
Cheers,
P

Here ya go Midge.... there are another 20 back down the other way from that view as well... help yourself, just leave the Maple & don't drop any (more) on my shed.
Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Thanks Cliff! I'll use the 'leccy chainsaw so's not to wake you up...
Actually, maybe I exaggerated a wee bit, about SEQ, but not about the sunny coast that's for sure.
Glad old pergolas are so cheap!
Cheers,
P

Midge,
I got some good quality hoop pine from a mill next door to Sandgate station; I was just buying 19 mm thick stuff though; not sure about whether they had any thick enough for masts.

P. S. Has the Domino arrived yet?

If you are interested in supplying small quantities at a reasonable price direct to consumers than you will do okay.
The big mills are really only interested in supplying wholesale/manufacturing and the places that do selling small quantities direct to consumers are mostly hardware stores that charge a fortune as Midge said.Have a nice day - Cheers

Hoop Pine Supply
Growing and Supplying Hoop Pine.
I like to hear about the demand for Hoop Pine since I have about 50 acres of Hoop plantations on my farm up to about 32 years old and 60 inches girth[50cm dia] and most of them pruned. This is my business and investment and I need to make some money out of it. The problem is that all the local pine mills have closed although they probably wouldn’t have paid me much anyway. I can have logs sawn at a local hardwood mill. There would be a profit margin of the larger diameter pruned butt logs but not for the knotty tops. The solution for me is to purchase a European pine sawmill. They are also called one man mills or sliding table mills. The problem is that I cannot afford it at the moment so I’m forced into just waiting. A Lucas mill is definitely not suitable especially for small diameter. Even when I do eventually get the mill, it will still take some time to find the most suitable outlets and have the whole operation running smoothly. The wood will probably need to be dried as well. In the meantime I welcome any positive contacts or comments. Hoop pine luckily can handle delayed thinnings.

I totally prefer hoop over radiata, but that is just because I am an eco-fascist, native is better than introduced any day. For marketing your stuff I have no idea but totally support of your venture.

I use crapiarta heaps, always on the look out for decent sized stuff(packs). But Im not going to pay the premium that they command for clears grade even at trade prices , its just not worth it as I have to charge my customers a lot more...
