    Default Rare/Exotic timber suppliers

    Hi all
Google can be great sometimes and other times its like walking on glass in the dark.
Does anyone have or know of a or many sources of the not so regular timber types in or around Melbourne.
I have been looking for Tiger Myrtle in the size proximity of 100x50 upward of 900mm
Sheoak, Silky oak are some other ones that spark an interest

    Regards

I have just bought some Tasmanian Myrtle from Britton Timbers in Dandenong. Would be worth ringing them as they were most helpful for a relatively small order. Sorry, don't have their phone number handy but you will find them via google.

    Shippers,
I was after some exotic and figured hardwoods also a few years ago. I purchased some from one of our forums sponsors - Misan craftwood. They are located in Tasmania but will ship interstate at a reasonable price. I know it's nicer to hand pick your boards but these days the online shops have pretty decent photos for buyers to inspect the various timbers.
There are also a couple of other Tasmanian based businesses that sell figured/exotic hardwoods in sizes that you have mentioned, and they mostly post interstate.

Here is some tiger myrtle - Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle - Highly Prized & Incredibly Rare Available in Slabs, Boards & Much more

When I went to britton (6 months ago) they told me they don't want to sell small Qty's. They don't want to pull a pack apart and then repack it is what they told me.

I wish someone from there would let me know one way or the other.

    I bought 2 lengths of 150 x 38 each 1500 long so not a big order.
I rang to see what they had and when I got there they had 3 pieces out because they were worried about colour matching for a table top and let me choose the 2 that I liked. They even rang here while I was on my way over to mention about the matching. As I said, most helpful and pleasant guys to deal with.

fly, If you are after rare timbers such as Fiddle back Blackwood, Tiger Myrtle, Birds eye maple, they will let you look at the pack, if you go in and ask for 2 x 2 metre lengths of 150 x 25 Blackwood or Red Gum, then they probably will tell you no. They are mindful of what they are selling. I have always found them obliging. I have ordered 80 x 80 x 850 mm Blackwood squares and they just pull out whatever I want and it's waiting for me. But if you give them 2 days notice and tell them that you like to pick your own boards, they will be understanding.

    Regards,

    Rob

    Hi Shippers.

I have several cubic metres of genuine Tiger Myrtle and Fiddleback Blackwood, including musical instrument grade material that I have stashed away in the shed. If you don't mind driving up to Rochester, you can choose 1 piece or 100, what ever takes your fancy. Milling fine timbers is just a hobby and passion of mine, and there is a few hundred cubic metres to choose from, some I milled 10+ years ago. I don't really sell large lots, just small parcels of high grade timber hand picked by people who are just as passionate about nice timber as I am!!

Just send me a PM if I can help.

    Cheers
