Recycled exterior softwood
I have acquired some 60 x 35 mm battons and some 90 x 90 posts from a pergola built in Adelaide about 25 - 30 years ago. They were painted with acrylic paint. I ran them through a thicknesser and found that the timber was quite nice. I thought they would most likely be oregon but some have a very tight grain and look suspiciously like baltic pine.
Anyway I would like to use them for a table top. There is no evidence of a preservative on them (ie no smell or green or black tinge). My question is are there any noxious preservatives that may have been used back then that would prohibit me from using the timber for a dining tale or similar?
Thanks in advance.
Jon
