    Default What is Red Pine?

I have always thought the antique red pine in old houses was New Zealand Totara but elsewhere on these forums someone said it was Californian Redwood.
So what species is "antique" Red Pine??

Very old Callitris endicheri One of about six species of australian native pines also known as Black Cypress Pine.
(Shows the importance of the proper botanical name.)

Red pine is none other than Rimu (Dacydium Cuppressinum). We've got more imaginative names over here like white pine (Kahikatea), mahogany pine (Totara), and of course, Kauri pine.
