Default Golden Cypress suitable for a bookcase?

Hello fellow members this is my first post of hopefully many more.

I have tried to source a decent LARGE timber bookcase (2nd hand) to no avail and now i have an option of buying seasoned golden cypress in 300 x 50 to use to make my own. (@ $27 per lineal m.)

Is GC worth the effort of using for a b/case which incidentally would be 2m x 2m with six shelves including the top and bottom. I have a dressed sample of gc which arrived in the mail and i gave it a quick rub with olive oil (yes) and it shows great lustre however i know nothing of this timber at all and will appreciate any replies.

Next q`s is who wants a job if i do indeed buy this GC in 300 x 50 x 2m lengths to assemble it? I am based nth of Seymour Vic.

Last q`s any suggestions re a backing timber?

You won't have any problems with using GC for shelves, in fact I have some set aside for shelves myself. Just out of interest, are you getting your timber from Rod?
    Cheers

i guess you know you will need to pre drill holes for cyprus. That's why it was out of favour until the availability of the nail gun for outside cladding. I have used cyprus on my stairs and I'm very happy with it. Hard as!

Just be aware of the differences with Radiata when you are machining it. Needs just that little bit more care.

This is the same as the stuff called Cypress Pine I take it? Termites hate it. I have a cottage built in 1957 entirely of cypress...bearers, joists, studs, plates, flooring, rafters, weatherboards. The deck is hardwood and periodically needs bits renewed as it gets eaten. They little buggas walk across the cypress to get to the hardwood. Never eaten a stick of the cottage.

Prozac the cypress your deck is made of is indigious ,the termites won't eat it .the macrocapa pine (golden cypress) is'nt . It's introduced, and a few of the trees i've milled have termites in them

mostly in the heartwood ,very uncommon ,i've milled less than one hundred of these so cant say i'm any expert but one ore two did have termite galleries in them .i cant recall if the tree was dead when it was lopped this might have something to do with the little buggers being in the tree
