Retro furniture, brushbox ply?
Hi guys,
My knowledge is very limited. I'm stripping a horrid paint job from a vintage/retro chest of drawers for myself. I'm guessing it's a 70's piece because it's got a masonite back, and the 50's pieces I've bought before usually have ply back.
What I would like to know is what kind of timber is this? It's ply or ply that has been veneered (sorry showing my lack of knowledge).
Brushbox?
for the most part the grain is straight then every so oven there is a spot where the grain seems to go sideways. LOL ok that sounded stupid.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Louisa.

Certainly not Brush Box or Silky Oak ( northern or southern .)
There is a lot of this type of veneer seen on modern day doors. My best guess is Meranti.

Yeah I agree it looks like meranti.......but I'm not so sure that it would have been a popular choice for veneer in the 60's/70's. I am convinced this is a genuine retro piece of furniture.
