OK, now I'm with you. Someone needs their head knocked together if they are mistakenly, deliberately or otherwise, calling another euc Redgum. I haven't seen or heard of that, so if you know of an example of this I would love to have a squiz.

    *Is is dense and heavy?

    *Open grained? Large pores?

    Default Close-up shots

Straight out of the thicknesser with no other finishing.

definitely from Asia (they came as spacers in a shipment of zinc. Apart from that I have some Doug laying around the shed and this is nothing like it.

    cool, that confirms my suspicions.

I am fairly confident in saying that what you have is Padauk.

    More Padauk pics.

The pink/red/brown wood is the heartwood, and the white areas are the sapwood. Keep the sapwood IMHO, resaw it and book match it for a nice contrast.

It will go much browner and darker with time and exposure to UV's.

Thanks for the great marimba link. I think i'll have a go at making one. . I reckon there's enough of the Paduak in the shed and the guy said he had a bit more of it.
Cheers and thanks all for the ID.
