"royal rosewood"?
hi,
i purchased a small peice of "royal rosewood" at the sydney woodwork show, and have sucessefully made a knife handle out of it. it is ...EXCELLENT, and subsequently i want more!
i cant find it. can anyone help me? the suppliers stand was at the back of the show, in the middle?
the timber itself is dark, with a faint tinge of purple, smells "nice", and has polished up with a very tight straight grain.
any clues?

Sounds like Indian Rosewood, AKA 'Penny Leaf' - Dalbergia Sissoo. Weed status around Mackay - they even employed a crew to go around culling it from the roadsides - wasn't many to be seen when I went through about 2 years ago
In the middle of turning a liitle piece of it myself at the moment - very nice to work with

I was in trend timber this morning. They have a stack of it.. I've turned a bowl out of royal rosewood in the past. It was rock hard but looked great
