SA Timber
Can anyone help with where in South Australia a person can obtain timber other than pine for furniture making?
Any advice would be appreciated.

G'day
Be prepared for a shock if you ring otto's, exraordinarilly high prices in my experience. Liemex at the port has a variety of timber at good prices. I wouldn't recommend bones. http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/icons/icon19.gif
What sort of timber did you have in mind?
cheers

I am ex SA. I have no info as to sources of new timber but suggest that you do the rounds of the salvage places.
SA was, in sailing ship days, the bread basket of Oz and was visited by ships from all over the world collecting agric produce for Europe and North America. A lot of them came ballasted with timber and some pretty exotic timbers found their way to the State.
A house I lived in at Largs Bay has 1 1/4" thick sugar pine floor boards throughout.
Go searching and find yourself some 100+ year old oregon or maple or birch or whatever.
It only takes one drink to get me loaded. Trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or fourteenth.

In Rod's reply he cautions against buying from Bones - could anyone suggest why that may be?
Thanks

I recon that Rod, along with almost everyone else, doesn’t take well to the in your face service that is dished out.
Have a look at this topic: http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/Forum21/HTML/000065.html

G'day Laurence
Though the experience I had at Bones was extraordinary, I would like to clarify though and say that all my visits have not been like that, only the one. I have found the prices a bit high, the service a bit slow, but they do have a good selection of mouldings and have been in business for a long time so they must be doing a lot of things right.
Forgive and forget I say. I won't be going there myself though.
cheers
Rod
