Shiver Me Timbers
Hi,
I was just wondering if anybody has visited "Shiver Me Timbers" in Melbourne lately. I would like to receive comments on what you thought of the prices and stock. Do they do small quantities or are they mainly larger orders. I just feel a little strange walking in to buy a few small pieces to put on the lathe if they regularly deal in larger orders.
Shiver Me Timbers
Thanks.

I've been in once or twice browsing and they are very helpful, and seen interested in your projects.
The prices are a problem in that I don't know what to compare them to (S-M-T is the only place I've found within a 2 day drive of Hoppers Crossing).
Small lots ... I bought old school tassie oak floorboards for a coffee table, and the guys (and girls) where very helpful, so they don't just deal in house lots of floorboards. They have all sorts of interesting stuff from floor boards, church pews, slabs, and everything in between. Well worth a wander round their shop.Great minds discuss ideas,

shiver me timbers
I found them very friendly and helpful.
Mainly recycled larger pieces although they do have an area set aside for odds and ends

Thanks Dave and Dereg ... I shall pay them a visit. Its good to hear that they are friendly and don't mind helping on small orders. I find that many yards aren't interested unless you want to by an entire forrest in one go. I had all sorts of problems once when I was trying to source $400 worth of Blackwood and even when I did find somebody that could get hold of it for me they were anything but helpful about it.

Shiver me ... I'm impressed
Thumbs up for a top range and service at Shiver Me Timbers .... I payed them a visit yesterday and was blown away from the quality of the timbers on display and the quality of the staff. All of the timber was cleaned up as new and was extremely well organised and clearly priced. The jarrah was as red as you could imagine and the sizes available were similar to what you would expect to see in pine at Bunnies. I managed to pick up some bargin off cut pieces which will be perfect for my turning needs. I will be sure to visit on a regualr basis and it will be worth your while to do the same if you are in the area.
Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Shiver Me Timbers, but I would just like to let people know when a business offers a good range and good service that are out there to support us in our business/hobbies.Now proudly sponsored by Binford Tools. I've shopped there quite a bit as it's only 15 mins drive away, and have noticed that of late, prices are the commercial rate of $/m^3. There's often some good wood to be had there but you pay for it.

Both Shiver Me Timbers and Nullabor (in Preston) are excellent sources of timbers. On top of everything else these two places sell timber that is sourced from recycling or ethical sources and they do not destroy forests for their products. Nullabor is a play on words: No Trees.
I have found that they are very obliging with information and with orders of any size. Their range of timbers is well in excess of any other timber suppliers in Victoria.
Sir Stinkalot is right on the money with his comments about sourcing small volumes for turning, I can't beleive the prices charged by other places for "Craftwood".
