Silky Oak Trunk in Melbourne (Eastern)
Hi all,
I am looking to get my silky oak (~20m) removed in Melbourne (Eastern suburbs - Blackburn) in the next 1-2 weeks.
Here is a photo of the tree:

Will probably cost me $1-2k to remove and grind the stump, so would appreciate if anybody was keen to share some of the costs, and in return get to use the awesome trunk for some woodwork!
Please reply here or PM me if you are interested.
Cheers.

You will probably get heaps of takers for the timber, just not paying for it, timber is not valuable until it is sawn/stacked/dried etc. Although it looks like a beautiful old tree it would also likely contain lots of metal and the pros would stay clear.
Please don't see it chipped though, it would be such a waste, as many backyard woodworkers could make use of it.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Not true Neil...otherwise sawmillers wouldn't be paying royalties on logs then !
In fact i have seen logs sell at auction for around $1000m3
Try telling Forestry Qld that timber in the round is worthless...they'll laugh at you!
Timber IS valuable in the round...that is fact...MMMapleman

Maybe advertise on e-bay ?or Gumtree?or newspaper?
Be guaranteed their will be someone out there who will pay good money for it!
But DON'T give it away because someone says its worthless.
If its worthless why would they want it????
Silky Oak is a prized cabinet timber
Your tree has got to be worth $500 if put safely to the ground for easy pick up.
There would be a few log cube in it
Google its merits and worth
You'll understand where i am coming from...MMMapleman

Thanks for the suggestions Mapleman. I might try Gumtree or eBay as well as here.
If anybody is keen on it, please let me know. I also think it would be a shame to chip it up - I only want a small amount towards the cost of cutting it down (~1.5k), but no takers so far for such a nice specie!!
Please PM me if you are interested!

Maybe I need to be more specific - if anybody wants the log, I'm happy with $200 for it. I will be cutting it down in the next 2-3 weeks.
Thanks!

Could you private message your address and mobile number to me and when I'm in town next Tuesday I'll swing pass and see if I want to add it to the other Silky logs I have already
Cheers
