Sizes to mill?
I am going to mill some logs soon and I have not got a use for them at the moment. May sell the wood perhaps. What sizes should I cut? I can cut 150mm max.
I have a plane log (Lacewood) 900mm dia 3m long
Grevellea robusta (silky Oak) 700mm " " "
Camphor laurel about the same
Cedar smaller
Sugargum
I would love some suggestions thankyou

Which part of Melbourne are you in? I would be interested in having a look at what you have with a view to purchase

Hi Glenn
I have previously bought timber 200 X 40, 50mm.
I find the 50mm to be better because you can rip it into 25 x 50 easier, also thinner stuff (15mm) is good for things like panels, drawer sides, etc.
20mm stuff would be useful also so you could rip widier boards ( 200x 20).
I suppose it all depends on how much the timber is going to twist, cup, etc.
Cheers, Allan

Wood Milling
I was talking to a timber miller from Gippsland last week and mentioned that I had been given a Tassie Blackwood log 900mmx 3m long...green. He said if i was going to slab it do not cut less than 60mm and put plenty of stickers in when stacking.
