Default slab of english cedar need help...

Guy,s i need some advice with a slab of english cedar (or de-a-dore i think) i have which i,m in the process of making a table out of it....its 110wx250Lx50t (3.5 ft x 8 ft 2 in approx ) and what i done is given it 2 coats of sanding sealer on the bottom and before i had a chance to give it the top coat (because it was so cold -4) on the top of the slab it went cupped on me pretty bad to.... so how will i get the cup out ??? any ideas please.... i,ve been told to throw it out in the sun with the cup side up and the moisture in the grass will be drawn back in to it and that should bring the cup out.... i hope....what do you think ??? any ideas much appreciated.....
    cheers phil.....

    Hi Phil,

If I were you I would get rid of the sealer, run it through the thicknesser and let it stand for a while, lay it down on some blocks so that all sides can breath, , it should then straighten out.

    Good luck

Bugger, sorry Phil, just noticed the size of the slab.

If cupping occurs, you can usually get rid of it by turning the piece over on a flat surface so that only one side can breath until it straightens out. This can be quite quick in direct sun light. But I’m not to sure if this will help you as the side you want to breath has been sealed. You may need to get the belt sander on it to take out the sealer.

If it was a small piece you could try putting moisture back in to the wood but I wouldn’t try that on a piece that big.

Interested to know what others would suggest.

    Good luck

Thanks kev..... i think what l,ll do is hit it with the old belt sander so it can breathe on both sides and throw her out on the lawn (with the cup side down so the sun is hitting the hump),with wetting the lawn just a bit so it can suck it up and to put the moisture back in to it but with it being so hot at the moment l would say only a couple of hours might do her..or should l leave the sanding sealer on and then throw her out on the lawn with no watering of the lawn ....Kev why wouldnt you try and put the moisture back in to it ? just to bring it back so its nice and straight and then sealer her up again.... l,m just new to all this so any advice would be great mate....

    cheers Phil.....
