    Default Slightly confusing measurement help?

Hi everyone, this is a bit of a stupid question, but i've been talking to a timber supplier in America and they've sent me a list of the available sizes for what i'm after.
Unfortunately its slightly confusing and i was wondering if anyone could help me to read it?
Obviously the 4/4 bit is in reference to thickness and width, but i'm unsure of what the length of the boards are

    4/4x4.875x86
    4/4x4.5x75.25
    4/4x4.875x72.75
    4/4x4.875x37.5

Any help would be very much appreciated

The way I read it is 4 pieces 4 inches x 4.875 inches x 86 inches long or in real measurements 4 pieces 101mm x 124mm x 2184mm and so on down the list

4/ is referring to 4 off

    4.875 is 125mm

    4.5 is 115mm

    86 is 2.2mt

    75.25 is 1.9mt

    37.5 is 950mm

The sizes advertised are imperial and the conversions I've quoted are to the nearest mm not the actual size.
    Cheers

I am not sure you are correct, I think the 4/4 is 1 inch ie 4 quarters I think it's 1/4 1 quarter inch, 2/4 half inch etc. Hopefully some of our USA members will put us right when it's day time over there.

I agree Hugh. 4/4 is Americanspeak for 1 inch board. All other dimensions are in inches. 4.875 inches wide x 86 inches long.
    Incidently 4.875 is 4 7/8".
Those were the droids I was looking for.

as an update here is the company's reply to my question as to whether the first 4 was in reference to the number of boards.
"The 4/4 means it is 1" thick x the width x the length"
