I have to order a steel for a ridge beam in my new roof addition.....at present it's a hip,I intend to remove the hip build the addition and then bring the new roof over forming a gable end...the steel ridge beam has cleats welded to it to bolt the new rafters to,as I intend to have sloping ceilings...here's the question,at last some may say...do I start in the middle and work the spacings out ,or start from the gable back towards the existing building?

As a general rule of thumb, if the new rafters are pitching off an existing wall plate that already has ceiling joists of the existing structure, ten that is what determines the layout of your rafters. I assume that your are lining under the rafters and not exposing them.
As for your gable end, is there a overhang or is it a flush gable and what size rafters are you using and also what size barge board on the end of the gable if there is an overhang
