    Default What sort of timber is this?

    Wandering through the disaster that is the Hastings River after the recent flood I came across a couple of chunks of what could have been someone's firewood heap. My thought is that this is some sort of Wattle but really, I have no idea. The grain looked pretty boring until I gave it a coat of boiled linseed, then I thought it had some potential. The logs were small, probably 250mm diameter, one with a grub hole running through it which made me think Wattle.

    Maybe Cape Lilac/White Cedar, the bark looks similar. This timber has grubs that like to eat it.

    White Cedar? Never thought of that one. There are (or were) a few around in the valley but they were unpopular due to the leaves being poisonous to cattle. Thanks Rod. I will turn some into a pen and see what it looks like.
