Exclamation What specie is this?? Bubinga?.. Rosewood?

    Yello,
I have some veneer that has got me stumped. Well, I have researched a little, but though it might be quicker testing out the seemingly endless knowledge here!

My tentative guess is some kind of Rosewood.... Santos?....Palisander...

any help would be greatly appreciated..........thanks.

    Hi Ruffy,
at least you had a crack, however I dont think it is Durian....
Below is a pic of Durian..

I will dig it out again on the weekend, and see if I can describe the scent of the timber (as I remember it did have a notable odour), as well as polishing a piece.........................the search goes on

That's wierd. I've got durian at home that really looks like your photo. Now, I'll have to dig it out and photograph it for you. Will be interesting to compare actually.

Is your sample a soft or hard wood. The durian I've got is definitely soft.

    cheers

Gotcha! Narrowed it down to 99% sure that it is 'Nigerian Rosewood'. (many thanks to Paul at Hobbithouse).

Still dont know the botanical name, very, very little information on the net.
