    This is a shot I took this morning of the first sleeping berth with restored bunk in place.
    The pieces I bent are beneath the circular spring and chain housing on the right.

    Hi Barry,
    I was a Boatbuilder in the 60's and 70's also. Boats from 40-100 feet. We did a lot of bending in the same manner you have described. I think what you saw was boiling timber and not steaming maybe. If you want to read more about it you can go to
