    Default Is this Stringy??

I was given this slab by my brother-in-law recently and he said the person that gave it to him said it was stringy-bark.

I've never really seen stringy slabbed so am not sure if that's what it actually is.
If so, is it worth using. Not for appearance but for workability and long term durability and stability.

The pics show a portion that i quickly planed and rubbed with some wiping varnish (thats all i had to use).

    Thanks for any help.

    Steven.

Looks like it could be stringy ( not a very colerfull specimin ) or could be mesmate, very close relitive and is usualy quite plane. Both are durable and stable once dried.

I'm leaning more to stringy, messmate usually has more vein lines in it, from what we have around here

    Thanks guys.

I was a little dissappointed with it's plain appearance. The growth lines are pretty tightly packed and it's a heavy bugger for what is a faily small slab (about 1400mm long x 40mm thick).
But it was a freeby so not complaing too much.
