    Default Stump/log Preparation

    Guys, I have acquired two large log rounds. They are 900mm long and about 750mm Dia. As they are green I am wondering what I need to do to dry them and prevent splitting or cracking. I would like them to stay natural looking so if I need to seal them can I use something clear??

    There end use is to be as stands so they won't be milled down they will stay as is.


    I assume they need to dry, how long should this be expected to take? As I am reluctant to bolt steel objects to them prior to drying for fear of rust.

    If you want something clear then multiple applications of watered down Bondcrete works well. It soaks in and seals and does not leave too much of a surface residue.

    since they're staying in the round it will take some years to dry. with an average of 25mm thickness a year. There are so many variables involved you just wouldn't know. How you would even find out if it's all dried evenly right through is beyond my knowledge base. Long time!
