Default Suggestions for timber to compliment Blackbutt

New on here so will start off by saying Hi! I'm making a couple of letterboxes for the family and have some Blackbutt which I was told would handle the outdoors. I'm looking for another species that will compliment the colour of the Blackbutt and will also be able to survive longterm outdoors. Something in the lighter brown spectrum??? And any suggestions on where to source timber in the Coffs area?
    Thanks
    Shamus

    G'day Shamus.

You might want to try Turpentine.
It is a brownie/dark red colour and weathers very well.
It is available around the Coffs/ Grafton area.
Try Coramba Timbers or Barry Graham Timbers Sales.

    Hooroo.

To date the only species that I am aware of that will "compliment" blackbutt is the human species. I'm not aware of any woods that talk but that might just be because I have never sat and listened all that hard.

I have matched Blackbut with Jarrah to good effect. If you are in a position to select your Jarrah you can pick the lighter toned, pink, pieces rather than the dark ones.
Jarrah is a good outdoor timber as long as you keep it oiled, but it does darken with age.
Take care with the Blackbut. It is one of the worst timbers for splinters that I have handled and the splinters hurt.

It only takes one drink to get me loaded. Trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or fourteenth.

    I'm thinking...
    Tallowood
    Vic Ash
    Tassie Oak
    Messmate.

All will blend in quite nicely with the Blackbutt.

Thanks for the replies. SWMBO is getting more toey on the subject so I'll have to get them underway sometime in the very near future. I'll head up to Coramba and see what they have available there, then its off to the sheetmetal man to get him to do his part.
