    Default Sydney Timber suppliers

    Hi group,
    I was wondering where you fellow Sydneysiders go for your timber?
    I have been to Trend near Windsor, Swadlings and Ironwood in Rozelle. Are there any more decent suppliers around especially suppliers of River redgum?

    Must say what a fantastic forum this is, I have been woodworking for a couple of years only nothing too fancy and have only recently started using hardwoods.

    Try Anagote Timbers at 144 Renwick street Marrickville. I found they will cut timber to length for you, whereas Trend did not Not fun forking out $150 for three meters of cherry when you only want one. Also a good selection of free off cuts

    Try Canalpie Timbers, Hilltop Rd. Nth Richmond. Very helpful & knowledgeable. Also, the woodage at Mittagong - a bit out of town, but a good range and very helpful.

    I don't know where in Sydney you're situated, but if you don't mind the Southern Highlands, I'll add my vote for the Woodage at Mittagong - very helpfull indeed, insisted in showing me around. I was after Red Cedar, they didn't have any, but gave me some offcuts from a recently sawn log for free. I'll be back. I didn't look at red gum specifically, but had lots of Eucalypt species, so I have no doubt they had some. I think they are only open weekdays though.

    The other option down here is Southern Trade Supplies in Moss Vale, also only open weekdays, but they were a complete contrast to the Woodage in terms of service, I know I am a disreputable looking character (shmbo says so, so it must be true) or perhaps it was just morning smoko, but I will have to be desperate before going there again.

    Thanks for the help,
    I called in at Anagate timbers in Marrickville this afternoon.
    No Red Gum but boy have they got some timber!
    They have an offcut bin for $2 a piece as well.

    Did you manage to find a supplier that has River Red Gum? I also visited Anagote and Swadlings hoping to find some (before I read this thread) ... seems it's pretty hard to find in Sydney!

    Totally by accident I found a wood supplier at Mt Kuring gai on the weekend, who is not only an old hand wood-turner, but is currently cutting and slabbing river red gum somewhere on the Lachlan river. I have his name and number ...... at home! I will post it for you termorra.
