    Default tasmanian blackwood

I am thinking about milling a large amount of tas blackwood, anyone have an idea on what I could expect to get for it, it would be boards and slabs as well, rough sawn green, could be transported anywhere in aus, obviously looking for the highest amount possible for it.

can not tell you what it is worth now but i bought a blank for a rifle stock about 15 years ago select grade i think i paid about 60 bucks for it .
i still have it never did make the stock but i will one day.
if the timber has nice figure i would look at maybe contacting a stock maker rifle and or shotgun and ask them what they would pay and what size they would require .
the blank i bought is probably about 3 inches thick i could measure and photograph it if you like

I sell my seasoned Blackwood for $1800 to $2400 per cubic metre plus gst. The range in price covers quality and width of boards.
Be careful in your calculations as blackwood does not yield well. It can have a wide sap band, doesn't grow very straight or tall, can have a fluted trunk and defects that reduce yield.

    cheers

Mostly boards and squares. Good squares are hard to get. Most of my customers want boards for cabinet work. I don't sell many blackwood slabs. The outer sap is also susceptible to borers so I prefer to handle boards.

I was quoted $1200 a cube for green select grade boards last week.
