    Default Tasmanian Blackwood supply

    Hi All
Does anyone know where I could purchase some 19mm Tasmanian Blackwood off the shelf, preferably in Melbourne?

    Google is your friend.

Last time I looked Timber Revival in Braybrook and Ceres Fair Wood in Preston had some but it will depend on the widths and lengths that you are after.

    Hope that helps

    Hi Tools,

I have plenty of 25mm rough sawn select grade, 75-300mm wide in all lengths, plus 40mm and 50mm thick stock, as well as 75, 100, 125 and 150mm square stock.
But I'm up in Rochester, central Vic., just getting back to the sheds after the floods. Luckily the big timber shed was untouched!

    Cheers,

    James.

I should have added James to my post but the request was for Melbourne suppliers.

I have had good timber from him and Rochester is basically just a day trip from Melbourne.

I have had very good experiences with Britton Timbers, based in Smithton, Tasmania.

They have a branch in Dandenong, Victoria.

Mathews Timber in Knoxfield have a good selection but I'd go see James at Tassie timbers, you won't want to leave the shed

    Cheers,

My first stop was at Matthews timber and they had a little bit of Blackwood but it was all rough sawn so not what I was after. Next stop was Ceres Fair Wood and they had bugger all and everything they did have was low grade. They said they were expecting a bit more in and were to find out when it was due and call me back but a month on and I haven't heard from them. I am dealing with Aldo at Britton for another job and he said they could get it in but didn't have anything in stock. I was in Geelong earlier in the week and dropped in to Timber Zoo an they had quite a big selection of dressed timber and it was all high grade and perfect for what I was after. No idea if I paid the right price or not but got a 3.5 of 190x20 DAR for $126 and was happy with that. They had a really good selection of timbers and were really pleasant to deal with so I will be back again

    Good result.

On a cost per cubic metre basis, that price is less than Bunnings charge for Clear grade radiata pine.

Just for you're future reference wheelan the warehouse in my past visits have had recycled timber, hydrowood tassie oak, blackwood, celery top pine and some huon pine DAR in racks. If memory serves correct also white oak and walnut. its pretty pricey though.

I think cheapest would be to go to Brittons and ask them to dress it for you they dont charge much but you have to order it wont be in racks for you to go and select pieces
