I was today offered some Queensland timber known here as Red Tulip Oak.

Argyrodendron actinophyllum:
Also knows as stavewood, hicory or crowsfoot elm amongst others.
It is fairly hard stuff to work but no worse than ironbark or redgum. It also has some fairly good looking grain if you get a good bit - the roots are always worth looking at.
If you do a search through queensland timber websites you may come across references to it?
Found it - http://www.dpi.qld.gov.au/hardwoodsqld/8287.html
Good to know that our taxes are put to some usefull purpose.
