Default Off The Saw Timber In Adelaide.

    Hi all,

I am looking for a supplier of off the saw timber in Adelaide Metro or within 100km. Nothing in particular, but just a general inquiry at this stage.

Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Steve

There I go again, showing off my in-experiance. I am after some dry rough cut planks. I am a bit annoyed at buying dressed timber that is not flat & not to size. I thought I might be better off to mill my own, & it may even be a little cheaper.

    Thaks Harry

I assume your talking about crapiarta(pine), you wont get much flat unwarped stock as its the nature of this wood... even if you get rough cut and machine it straight and square after a few hours it will warp and bow(espesh overnight).
The best fix is to joint(glue up) it straight after machining it.
    Have you tried Handypine? http://www.handypine.com.au/HandyPine/intro.html
I buy by the 2.4 or 3m pack from these merch grade 290/19mm then machine it to the size I need.

You have hit the nail on the head Harry. I did'nt know that all that pine warped like that, I thought it was a case of growing one day furniture the next.

Yeh mate, I buy all my pine from handy pine, & all my sandpaper from weber abrasives which is on the same road, same side. (Hope I can help you a little)

It usually takes me a while to finish a project due to the "Every thing comes before wood woork rule", so I usually only buy enough to do the next stage of the project & stack it flat & clamp it down until I work on it.

Easy for me, 20mins down the road but I can see why you would buy it by the pack. Must admit, it sure would be great to have all that timber out in the shed.

    Thanks Harry

Weber abrasives eh, I shall haunt them next time I pick up another pack'o'crapiarta!

Your better off buying up and storing it for a few days-weeks, this way it will equalise the moisture content of the wood with your area's climate, it'll reduce the severartiy of the warping.

Thankyou for your help Harry, I really can't aford to buy a pack but I will start to buy larger quantities as you suggested.

Webber are on the same side of the road as Handypine, about 3 or so doors back toward grange road.
