Default What timber for babies toys?

Hi all, just wondering if anyone can help me with this question.
I'm wanting to make some timber teethers for my grandbabies and also wooden toys for slightly older ones with my scroll saw. I've been practising with pine but of course for teethers I'd need a hard wood, but what? I'm a bit clueless with timber types/uses.
Could someone kindly point me in the right direction please? Also a source in Brisbane would be helpful as well.

    Thanks
    Sandy
