Here's an impressive collection of density values. The idea was to present the "basic density" but some of these numbers represent air-dry densities (much higher values). Some even represent the basic density of a full tree disk, probably taken at breast height.

Australian timbers appear to be relatively less dense because an estimated "basic density" is being used. Most of the worlds extremely dense timbers are from Australia and South America.
