Chikushi, welcome to the forum. I don't want to discorouge a new member, but your photo is not in focus, which makes a very difficult question impossible to answer. It also looks like two pieces, or is that varnish on the front part?

The framing in most old houses in Australia is often a mixture of hardwoods. The particular species used may have been from the local area, or brought from very great distances away, so that's not very helpful. Most hardwoods used for building are Eucalypts, of which around a hundred species or so produce wood suitable for building purposes. It's nearly impossible to say what exact species many Eucalypts are by looking at a picture. Texture & smell can sometimes help. You may be able to make a good guess, if you know it is a local species, but only a relatively small number of Eucalypts have an appearnce sufficiently distinct that you cn be absolutely certain of what it is by looking at it, if it is out of its local area.

If it really matters, you can send samples to a lab to have them identified, but the cost is probably not warranted. On probability alone, you have a piece of Eucalyptus (spp), there, and that may be as close as you'll ever get.

    Cheers,
    IW
