Timber ID
Hello all.
I have this timber that I have put away for a while now.
I don't know what it is. Here are some pics. Note the light specks through it (a bit like the yellow specks through merbau), these don't show up well in the pics.
It is quite low density (ie not heavy).
Maybe the brains trust could help me out? (That's you)
Thanks in advance.

Looks like silky oak but the low density may be a banksia of some sort.
Regards

Pink Silky Oak - Alloxylon wickhamii
Is it slightly greasy to the touch?
Relatively light, open grain and quite soft?

Thanks for the feed back, fellas.
Might be Silky Oak, by the looks.
If I find out anything more definite, I'll let you know. (my pics are not that good).
Cheers,
TM

More likely Southern Silky Oak - Grevillia Robusta.

It could be Southern Silky Oak - Grevillia Robusta which is the more commonly encountered timber down your way, Definitely not Northern Silky Oak but given the fact you said "quite low density" and the darker pink striations through the timber, medulary ray structure my money is still on Pink Silky Oak - Alloxylon wickhamii.

Photos 1, 2, 3, look like grevillia robusta but 4, 5, the medullary ray looks just a bit too big and too consistant. So my guess would lean to the pink silky though I've never worked with any aloxylon wickhamii.
